Communication and Data Labs
MIT BE Communication Lab
Founded in 2013, this peer-coaching model of trained graduate and postdoc fellows help our biological engineers write, design, and present projects ranging from lab reports, PhD dissertations, and job applications.
The “Comm Lab” supports BE undergraduate and graduate students and postdocs in one-on-one coaching and targeted workshops from brainstorming to final edits towards conveying technical information to a range of audiences.
MIT BE Data Lab
Inspired by the “Comm Lab” the MIT BE Data Lab piloted in spring of 2020 to provide on-demand, discipline specific, one-on-one peer coaching to help BE students and researchers plan and code life science computational projects.
The Data Lab provides support for specific languages and frameworks as well as classwork guidance, brainstorming support, experimental design and data analysis efficiency. Their mission is to train students to generate reproducible and ethical data for the betterment of science and society.
