Biography

Han Xu is the BE Communication Lecturer and Communication Lab Manager. She joins the department in 2024, after working as a Scientific Outreach and Education Specialist at Harvard Medical School in the Harvard Program in Therapeutic Science.

Han obtained her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University and completed her postdoctoral training at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Her research interests were in cell and tissue mechanics and leveraging our knowledge of the mechanical properties of cells/tissues to develop treatment options.
Han’s passion for education and mentoring grew in her academic journey and soon became the center of her career goals. At Harvard Medical School, she developed curriculums for students, designed and facilitated communication and career skill workshops, built online educational material, fostered DEI dialogues, and collaborated with local STEM programs in outreach activities. She also took courses on evidence-based pedagogy to hone her education skillsets.
